Yoplait Dairy Crest is a joint venture between Yoplait SA (51%) and Dairy Crest (49%), launched in 1991. Yoplait was formed in 1965, has a worldwide turnover of over £600m and sells over 1m tonnes of product per year. Dairy Crest became a plc in August 1996, and acquired Unigate in 2000. It has over 7,000 employees and a turnover in excess of £1.3bn. Yoplait is a global company, and has facilities in 50 markets, where it is consistently a brand leader in fresh dairy products. The head office is in France, and it runs nine factories in Europe, with subsidiaries joint ventures in Belgium, Czech Republic, Scandinavia and the UK and licenses in major markets such as the USA, Mexico, Canada and Australia. Dairy Crest is one of the UK's leading added value dairy businesses, with brands in sectors such as cheese, spreads, ingredients, fresh dairy products and milk. The joint venture, Yoplait Dairy Crest, now has an annual turnover of £171m and is one of the most significant branded CYD (chilled yogurt & desserts) suppliers in the country.
